Stock Market

Stock market plays an important role in the economy. It provides capital to the organization while investment opportunity to the mass population. It enables firm grabbing opportunities from different angle such as portfolio diversification, business expansion.

Stock market is a virtual marketplace where pricing can not be controlled and/or defined with any rationale. Theory can rarely be applied in the practical field of stock pricing in the secondary market. Investors create demand, cause imbalance to supply and results price hike. Besides demand supply equation, the market is mostly dominated by the perception of the traders, rule-regulation regarding investment, knowledge level of traders etc. Recently, Dhaka Stock Exchange has experienced an unusual price hike and collapsed as well. Many traders have lost their capital while few have gained unlimited.

Ideally investments need collection of relative information and analysis to forecast future price. But few institutions use to analyze data, trends etc. Personal investments are mostly done with their intuition, suggestion, rumor etc. Thus this effortless, easy gained profit attracts individuals which causes

    1. Additional flow of money in the market resulting higher demand
    2. Increase cost in different market as a result of competitive profit ratio
    3. Demoralizes SME due to high opportunity costs

There is no limit of price hike, profit ratio as well. It may be considered as an opportunity cost in regular business by the investors. Adjusting with that opportunity cost, which is a common nature of business organization, is to increase their profit up to that mark and the easiest way to do so is increased price.

On the other hand, these easy gained profits lead to additional expenditure in daily life. As a result, life becomes more expensive. Immediate effects include urban resident, transport, foods, fashion etc. The worst effect is being luxurious in every aspect of daily life which is very much incompatible for the limited earned people like service holders.

Moreover, almost effortless gain prevents the development of new enterprise which needs much more effort with low return associating high risk. Even many people sold their business and invested the capital in the stock market which is very much alarming for the economy.

Stock market doesn’t contribute to the GDP directly but it is has direct impact on the different critical segment of the economy like market demand, employment etc. Thus it’s considered as the mirror of the economy. So it needs to be handled very carefully. As a long term market place its need to be stable and much more controlled regularly for the sake of general investor and the economy as well.

Traffic Jam

Well facilitated transportation system is one of the major attractions of the urban life. But now a day, urban traffic system has become a major problem in daily life. It costs our valuable time reduce the productivity through creating pressure & frustration. In the year of 1999, when I was a college student, I missed many classes in the morning session due to heavy traffic. . Sometimes it took more than 1 hour 30 minutes to go 3 km (approx).

Definitely overcrowded populations, insufficient roads, increasing number of vehicles are the most common reasons. Beside these, there are also few issues that have worsened the situation like -

• Mix of fuel and labor driven vehicles: In Dhaka city, rickshaw is one of the common transport which runs by the human being. The speed of rickshaw can hardly be 25% of fuel driven vehicles including public buses, subject to the available free road. The different speed is not the main problem. The problem occurs when they are running on the same way, one after another. Such imbalanced mix causes terrible situation.

• Unplanned bus stoppage: Very few separate spaces are available for bus stoppage in our city. Vehicles, both public & private, are standing on the running road which results a queue behind. In addition to these, local services don’t have any stoppage to drop and pick. Each & every steps are their stoppage which results the same situation. We can take a look on the “Airport road” to know a better concept for bus stoppage.

• Car parking on the roads: Even in Motijheel, the busiest commercial area of the country, we can see the cars are parked on the running roads. As there are few opportunities to widen these road and few buildings have their own parking lot, some multi-storied car parking’s have been introduced, they are not being properly utilized.

• Junctions causing Crossings and “U” turn: Very common feature of Dhaka city is too much junction in the roads. One may get right or left turn in every 100/200 meters. Every right turn cause two signal which results waiting time for both the ways.

• Impatient behavior of vehicles and people: People seem to be very much impatient whether they are walking through the road or sitting on the driving seat. Every one wants to go first; even sometime they don’t care about the traffic rules.

• Others: Beyond these above reasons, running on wrong way, electric-posts on the roads, and so on causes heavy traffic through shrinking the road. Moreover we have a male practice to use roads on our personal matters.

If we carefully go through these problems, everybody will find the solution. May be individuals will think the best solution for specific problem. What we need is to implement the system. And we can solve many of these problems just being careful in our daily life.
